Welcome Delilah

Delilah is a 6 lbs Toy Fox Terrier who's ready to take on the world!

Our blog is called "Tiny Paws, Big Adventures," where we focus on two different topics. One is Delilah's anxiety and behavior modification progress. She is a rescue dog that I had transported up from Tennessee, and I think somewhere between poor genetics, lack of socialization as a puppy, and some scary experiences as a stray and in a high kill shelter, she has developed a lot of anxiety and fear. Sometimes it can be a challenge, but we'll never give up!

Our other focus is dispelling the myth that "little dogs aren't real dogs" and showing the world that the little guys can have fun too! Delilah and I go on a lot of hiking adventures around the beautiful state of Vermont and dabble in dog sports- agility, barn hunt, trick training. She can do anything a big dog can do! Welcome Astro

We want to Welcome Astro to Blogville.
Astro lives where Cinnamon used to live before Cinnamon crossed the bridge.

His new family had a bad experience with a mean man so they went to a shelter to look around.
There were lots of dogs and cats up for adoption. They walked around and found a cute black pitty. They both fell in love with him right away! How could they not right?

After a 20 min get to know meet and greet, a interview and paperwork, Astro got to go home with Jeff and Linda. It was so simple and they were all just so Happy. At the shelter his name used to be Hippo but they changed it to Astro. I don't know about you but I like Astro much better.

Astro and his dad Jeff.  His Mom is in the process of setting up a blog for Astro but it isn't up and running just yet. She may need a bit of help if anyone would like to help her.

Welcome Teddy

Hi..Id like to introduce you to Teddy, newly adopted nine month-old dachshund poodle hybrid. My precious Marley went to the Rainbow Bridge January 21 in New Delhi, India after being with me for 12 years. He was 15. I adopted him in China at age three. He left a huge hole in my heart. I just moved back to FL to help care for my aging parents. It is a major adjustment, almost worse than cultural adjustments when I moved to China. I prayed for a dog that needed me. I began the search the very night arrived back in the USA. I looked on all the dachshund rescue sites and pages, Pet finder, and many others. I was looking for a mini dachshund so that he would not be too heavy for my parent's laps, or for them to pick up. I ruled out senior dogs and dogs with major health issues as emotionally, I am just not in a place to handle that.

I found Teddy on rescue me.org. A mix. Hmmmm. I fell in love with the scruffy face in his picture, but just wasn't sure about a dog already in his second home since the brewer's. He was in the first home for five months and the second only three. They could not keep up with his grooming needs, or the level of attention he required. They had three pit bulls as well. I drove about an hour away to meet him. He was very shy, but before we left he let me pet him. I gasped when I saw him. He is even cuter in person. As we had my dog nephews visiting me, I didn't bring him home. I looked at 100 more dogs, at least. Teddy had my heart. I couldn't wait to go get him. I made preparations ( like unpack a bazillion suitcases) and drove to get him on March 16. I am in love. He is just what I need.

Welcome Dougie Dog

Let me introduce Dougie Dog.

ZOOLATRY is going to the dogs!  Here is our newest family member, DOUGIE DOG.  Since our blog began in 2007 we've been known as cat bloggers ... but now, we are also dog bloggers!  When I moved from Florida to Maryland in 2013 to live with my daughter and her family, special circumstances would not permit me to bring "the Zoolatry girls" with me. 

My beautiful Maggy was re-homed in Florida, to always enjoy her beach breezes and gecko chasing.  Little Zoey came to Maryland to live with a dear friend nearby, so I do see her often and spend time with her. Having a pet at home, close each and every day has been missed ~ but no more!  Here comes Dougie Dog ... an 18-month old Lab mix, with about 75-pounds of puppy power, enthusiasm and energy.  Full of fun, playful and super-smart.  Learning his lessons well.  Except when it comes to walking, running is really his thing (lots of training needed on this issue!).  Without doubt, my 6-year old grand boy here has definitely found a new best friend.

From what little we know, Dougie was abandoned as a young pup at an industrial dump near Philadelphia, then found and dropped at a kill shelter.  From there, with various injuries likely from fighting for survival, he was rescued by a Lab lover and transported to Washington, DC.  He made his home with a loving family including two other Labs and a few kitty cats and was brought back to good health. 

The Daddy here had been wanting to adopt a Lab and knew this family, he had met Dougie and some casual talk began between them, soon turning to more serious talk about whether they would think of allowing him to be adopted ...

A few weeks ago Dougie Dog came to visit, a house guest for the weekend.  But unlike most house guests who pack their bags and leave after a short visit, Dougie has stayed on.  And on, and ... and last weekend at the dog park, his family from before brought some of his old toys and other things when they came to see how he was getting along.  Seems like everyone (Dougie, too) is kind of in agreement that he might just have found a new forever home.  Think so?

Welcome Lucy

Hello everyone!  
Welcome to Abbey (my mom) and Lucy! This site is all about me! 

My name is Lucy. My family adopted me just a few months back. I was found on the side of the road in Tennessee by a nice lady that fosters dogs. She took me in and reported the situation to a local dog rescue. My family was interested in purchasing a dog but they didn't want to get a puppy for various reasons. They settled on getting an adult dog so they decided to rescue instead. They  were looking at small dog breeds but none really suited them. Some medium dog breeds were too big or weren't compatible so they decided to just browse Pet finder. They saw a Basset Hound and since they hadn't really heard much about them, they did some  research. The Basset Hound breed suited them perfectly and luckily, I was available for adoption!

M name was originally Dani but I wasn't trained to it so they said that it could be changed. They thought that I was about  two or three years old which was perfect. I was spayed and got all of my vaccinations. I did have a case of parasites but I got put on medication for a long period of time so I was fine. My family had to fill out a form and an agent came to our house a few days later to make sure that we were legit and that we were able to support a dog. It was a very LONG wait until they found out that they could have me. 

They didn't want my name to be Dani but they couldn't decide on my name. They went through a lot of different names but not a single one stuck. My mom suggested the name Lucy and everyone loved it! A few days later they heard news that I was being loaded onto the truck which would drive me all the way to my new state. I arrived in about three days and when they drove to the kennel where I was  boarded, the panic set in. My mom was so nervous. 
She thought: What if she didn't like us? 
What if she didn't want to live with us?
Every aspect of it made her nervous. They walked into the kennel office and they got to watch another family get their dog and it almost made me cry! It was so adorable! The dog was still a puppy but was big enough to knock the woman over. He jumped into her arms and kept licking her face. 

Then they handed my family the paperwork and told them that I would be on my way soon. They gave them my leash and they went into the back. Mom said that it felt like an ETERNITY until we came out. It was well worth it though! 
I came running out the door and jumped all over them! It was emotional and hysterical all at the same time! If you have ever seen a Basset Hound run you will totally understand the hysterical part! I jumped right into our car and was so excited the whole ride! I guess the story is still being developed...That is what this site is all about! I hope that you enjoy this and our many other stories!

Welcome Christmas, Katie and Cosmo, Phineas and Mozzie

We want to officially give  a Welcome Wagon..... Welcome to Christmas. Most of you probably read about Christmas on Stanley and Murphys blog.

​My name is Robin Whiskers and I am a 12 year old girl with a passion for animals. I live with two dogs and three cats. I show one of my dogs, a miniature dachshund named Christmas, and I also enjoying going to Petsmart to help out with the adoptable dogs there on the weekends. Our other dog, Katie, is a sweet senior Beagle/Shepherd mix who is the ideal family pet, and our three cats, the troublesome Cosmo, the agile Phineas, and the plump and lazy Mozzie, are also great to have around. Though I have no official mission statement, I hope that everyone who follows my blog will enjoy the fun, yet simple aspects to it. You never know what you'll find on Paw Province!​
